The Internet Culturale portal was designed to centralise and simplify access to Italy's cultural heritage. Launched in 2010, the portal is a national databank that provides a unified and immediate view of information sources and digital materials from numerous library databases and repositories.
It supports searches of over 11 million catalogue records in the National Library System - related to historical catalogues, 16th century publications, digitised iconographic, audio and video resources - and of resources from different digital object repositories (Teca ICCU, Emeroteca Braidense, ICBSA, Biblioteca Marciana, National Central Library of Florence etc.).
The system manages the different features of the original databases and their export formats, offering an integrated and comprehensive research experience covering everything from manuscript and map collections to the Italian newspaper library and 20th century graphic and music materials.
