The 14-18 project led to the creation and online management of a large archive of little-known documentary materials of extraordinary historical and cultural significance relating to the topics, personalities and events of the First World War. The online archive makes it possible to raise the visibility and awareness of the document collections of different institutions - periodicals, personal diaries and correspondence, audio recordings, photographs, printed graphic resources and drawings - many of which of significant qualitative and sometimes even artistic relevance.
Navigation of the large catalogue - it consists of some 715,000 digital resources - is supported by an engine and an integrated search system with intuitive filters that allow results to be sorted by type of material, author, topic, place, date, subject, etc. The portal uses a repository that complies with the OAI-PMH standard, ensuring full data integrity and the broad accessibility of resources, including through interoperability with Europeana, the European culture portal.
