For the Uffizi Gallery we created an innovative system for the management and internal and external consultation of official catalogue of the collections. Using the open source metaFAD software, we designed a platform to catalogue and publish the records of the works and to operate rapidly in tandem with SIGECweb, the General Information System of the National Catalogue.
The system was customised to meet the specific needs of the museum and related museum institutions, such as the Palatine Gallery of Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens, with the aim of guaranteeing efficient data management and the intuitive use of the collections both for the general public and sector specialists who - by registering for a restricted area - can access more extensive views of the descriptive content of the catalogued resources.
The solution includes almost all types of catalogue records established by the ICCD standards and customised descriptive records for the Euploos project, dedicated to the catalogue of the Department of Prints and Drawings.
Functionalities were also integrated for the importing of data in formats no longer supported by national standards, and Application Programming Interface services were developed to facilitate the publication of the records on external systems.
