The MusEQ project was created to animate the Esquilino neighborhood as a place of cultural, tourist, and commercial interest and to establish connections between museums and everyday spaces (shops, commercial activities, places of worship) scattered throughout the area. Through engaging visit paths, it offers users a personalized visiting experience tailored to their interests and needs.
Thus, through the union of culture and technology, a new model of interaction between the museum and the territory (and vice versa) is outlined, enabled by a distributed management system.
The MusEQ Project has led to the development and release of a software ecosystem capable of managing multiple devices in a centralized manner, which, in this specific project, includes a dedicated app, a website, and digital signage devices distributed throughout the area: video projections placed in hotels, commercial activities, and historic shops, as well as interactive totems located in partner museums, such as the Museo Nazionale Romano and Centrale Montemartini.
A team of experts and art historians has crafted stories and visit paths that connect the entire neighborhood, its present—characterized by commercial activities, tourism, active citizenship, and multiculturalism—with its history, monuments, and museums.
The Content Authoring system has allowed for the integration and management of stories and visit paths dedicated to the Esquilino, enabling them to be published on the dedicated app—available for free on iOS and Android stores—on the website, and in digital signage stations.
The information provided to users/visitors is further personalized through a recommendation system capable of understanding the needs/interests of the user/visitor, returning content and information aligned with their needs and state of mind, thus offering a "tailor-made" visiting experience.
Assistance for navigation is provided by beacons, which are sensors placed inside historic shops, stores, churches, professional offices, pharmacies, and meeting places near points of interest in the Esquilino neighborhood. When a visitor using the MusEQ app approaches the point of interest connected to the beacon, they receive a notification on their mobile device, allowing them to discover historical itineraries, news, and curiosities about the neighborhood, making these places an active part of the narrative.
The project is designed to discover, experience, and narrate the neighborhood.
MusEQ creates a new model of interaction and connection between museums and civil society (and vice versa):
