Purpose

The main purpose of the entire project is to create a new dimension of memory tourism, one of the valued components recognized in Italian art cities, which offer evocative experiences of emotional and existential growth.

The project develops this purpose by addressing various aspects.

The first aspect of Encore consists of combining elements from literary studies, aimed at defining a model of mirror heritage, with research in the social area of tourism psychology.

The second area of action is related to digital content engineering techniques for the reuse of digital cultural assets. The chosen approach involves dividing digital objects into individual, finite-sense digital items that are reusable and interchangeable. The project develops a model and tools to manage these informational objects.

The third area of development focuses on creating solutions that allow end users to access points of interest. Specifically, users can access predetermined itineraries, or alternatively, they can build their own route in real time.

The final aspect concerns the design of a model for applying the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system to cultural content related to Points of Interest (POI) in art cities, including the specification of appropriate metadata for classification, the creation of a registry for classification, and the subsequent organization of a POIr Registry Management Authority.

Expected results

The project proposes a methodology and system for accessing, reusing, and economically leveraging digital cultural resources, starting from the state of the art in research in the field of the humanities and the most advanced ICT technologies. In the research aimed at developing the methodology in question, the expected results specifically include:

  1. the creation of a new model for accessing the cultural heritage of art cities based on the versatility and emotionality of mirror heritage;
  2. the development of bottom-up techniques useful for extracting ontological systems from crowdsourced content;
  3. the enhancement of the application of content engineering techniques useful for producing content encapsulated in individual digital objects that can be reused and combined;
  4. the creation of a business model for digital content and the development of a value chain for its exploitation.
