ImagiBook turns reading into an immersive, multi-sensory experience. With advanced Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies, ImagiBook is an innovative solution for creating multimedia editorial content that combines text and media in one interactive format.
ImagiBook aims to revitalize interest in reading among younger generations—Gen Z and Gen Alpha—who show a strong preference for video game devices over books.
The proposed solution is the ImagiBook: a multisensory innovation that uses artificial intelligence to transform text into animated and interactive visual experiences, while maintaining narrative and stylistic coherence. By breaking the text into scenes and episodes, incorporating audio readings and animated visualizations, the project offers a new way of experiencing books—one that appeals to the target audience. A prototype system will be developed, integrating Large Language Models and generative AI to create audiovisual books from digital texts.
ImagiBook aims to develop systematic methods, supported by artificial intelligence technologies, that enable a visual/cinematographic re-mediation of books—primarily those from the classic literary canon for children—making them accessible in engaging digital environments.
ImagiBook is a new concept that does not seek to cannibalize the print or traditional book market; rather, it aims to fill a gap that is currently, unfortunately, being addressed not by cultural producers (publishers), but by gaming industry operators.
The ultimate goal of the project is to create an integrated technological solution, based on advanced artificial intelligence methods, that enables the visual re-mediation of books—primarily those from the classic literary canon for children—making them accessible through innovative digital environments.
The project targets the publishing industry and the education sector, aiming to address the increasingly evident decline in reading engagement, particularly among school-age youth from Generations Z and Alpha (born after 2000), who are increasingly drawn to video game and interactive devices. These young readers have developed a strong disinterest in books—whether printed or digital—due to the inherent challenge they present: being composed of words (which must be read, understood, and interpreted/visualized) rather than images.
ImagiBook responds to the demand for products that can engage and appeal to a diverse digital audience, with advanced tools that allow publishers to create highly personalised and impactful content.
ImagiBook was developed with the support of the Programma Operativo Nazionale Imprese e Competitività 2014-2020 (National Operational Programme on Enterprises and Competitiveness 2014-2020) and is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which recognised the importance of promoting technological innovation in publishing and related sectors.
Artificial intelligence at the service of human creativity, to transform words into exciting stories.
ImagiBook simplifies reading by automatically fragmenting the text into separate scenes and episodes.
Words, images and voices are combined to form a fluid sequence that can be enjoyed on various channels and digital platforms.
The text is transformed into dynamic images and videos, for an enriched and engaging reading experience.
Compelling audio automatically adapts tone, rhythm and expression to maximise the narrative impact of content.
